Jun 2019 – Present

I joined CFLI as a program coordinator in the summer of 2019 and in 2022, now I have been promoted to program manager. Here in the journey with CFLI, I learned a lot of technical and admin-related skills. I also got the opportunity to tackle communication-related tasks. Today I am able to guide my fellow teammates with these skills I have acquired.

A few important lessons I will always carry with me include

  • Double-check for accuracy, especially when reusing copies
  • Less is more so keep it concise
  • Using bold text or bullets to emphasize important information makes it easier for the reader
  • Using images in your email to balance out the text
  • And of course, get creative/think outside the box.

CFLI’s 10th year anniversary was another big milestone I was a part of. Planning, scripting, organizing, communicating and MCing were all things I worked on with my team. This was my first poke at planning a major event.

YRoots was an existing program that occurred in person a couple of years back and I was given the responsibility to run our first virtual session in 2022. With my team members, I was able to revamp the original project on running workshops to help students in our community to stay in touch with their Tamil Roots. The success of the program can be seen in the registrations, engagement and final response. We had double the amount of expected registrations, we held the engagement of 74% of the participants till the very end of the and we received many follow-up emails requesting more workshops.

The YRoots 2022 Workshop is THIS SUNDAY, February 13th from 10 AM -12 PM EST! 🚨🚨🚨Join Rajgumar Gunaratnam and Sayantha Baskaran as they dive into the history of Tamil Culture and learn more about the richness of the Tamil language.

This was a program reviving a project that I had taken on under the supervision and guidance of Kesavan Jeganathan. We had to ensure the topics covered were of relevance to a broad age range from kids aged 12 to their parents. We also had to take into consideration of the varying knowledge of the audience. Initially, we didn’t have many registrations for the program so we had to reschedule the workshop, but the second time we made sure we communicate enough, bumping up the registration to double the expected number.

This was actually one of the most creative projects I’ve ever worked on. This email campaign was sent out to parents who were part of the CFLI mailing list to encourage them to come to attend our very first virtual event. To create some engagement I created a loop email that kept asking if they would attend in various different ways while giving them very valid reasons to attend till they clicked “Yes” for “I will attend”.

Here is a selection of other social media posts and graphics which I had created for the organization.

Here is a post informing our community members about summer jobs posting.
Here is a video tutorial that I created to walk parents through the new YPortal system that was incorporated into our website.
Here is a promotion video I created with existing students for the documentary-making program for youth called YDocs.
